FAQs

How much does it cost?

The cost for each online notary session is $22.00 per meeting, and $10.00 for each additional stamp for that session.

who can schedule an online notary appointment?

Online notary appointments are available to everyone within the United States, and United States citizens abroad. If you’re not certain if you can use the online notary service, feel free to ask!

what is an online notarization?

An online notarization is a notarial act that is accomplished by means of audio/visual technology (video conferencing) instead of the signer and the notary being in the same physical location.

what is an online notary public?

An online notary public is a notary public who is commissioned through their resident state, and authorized by that state to perform online notarial acts.

are all notary publics online notary publics?

Not all notaries are authorized online notary publics. Authorization to perform online notarial acts is a separate process in addition to receiving a traditional notary commission.

ARE ONLINE NOTARY AND ENOTARY THE SAME?

Remote online notary and eNotary (electronic notary) are not the same. During an electronic notarization (or eNotary) the signer and the notary public must be in the same physical location, and the notary public will use an electronic seal or notary stamp, instead of their traditional ink stamp. During a remote online notarization, an electronic notary seal is used, but the signer and the online notary are not required to be in the same physical location during the notarization process.

how is my identity confirmed?

During your notary appointment your identity will be verified through the use of a third-party knowledge based authentication (KBA) system. Additionally, you will be required to upload front and back pictures of your photo ID for visual confirmation by the notary.

what is knowledge based authentication (KBA)?

A knowledge based authentication (KBA) system uses information about you, such as your credit history, to populate questions to confirm that you are you. This has no effect on your credit score, and your information is never available to the notary or stored by the notary or notary platform. A Professional Paralegal Service, LLC uses the Signix platform to provide all online notary services. A step-by-step on how the KBA system works is provided here for your convenience.

what are acceptable forms of id?

Acceptable forms of ID include a state issued driver’s license, state issued photo ID or passport. If you have a question regarding your specific form of ID, feel free to contact us and ask!

what types of documents can be notarized?

Almost every document that can be notarized by a regular notary can be notarized remotely. However, please take note that at this time, real estate documents and divorce decrees cannot be notarized online through The Better Notary Service®.

when will i receive my notarized document?
